Hoopeston turns to eBay to unload fire truck

No one around Hoopeston wanted the volunteer fire department's old hook-and-and ladder truck when it was put up for sale last year, so the chief came up with a modern solution.
Auction it on eBay, figured Chief Greg Shipman. It worked.
The $5,000 winning bid came from Middletown, N.Y., where Andrew Leider plans to open a museum and put the truck on display.
Shipman said Wednesday that he'd hoped to get more money for the department out of the old truck, which was given to Hoopeston by the city of Watseka, Ill. The small towns are about 25 miles apart in eastern Illinois.

South Portland business helps eBay novices

SOUTH PORTLAND (Jan 3, 2007): Every New Year brings the hope of tidier closets, a less-cluttered garage and the dumping, in general, of unwanted stuff.

Anyone with limited Internet savvy simply hoping to unload few unwanted Christmas presents, however, might find eBay a mind-boggling challenge: Currently, eBay boasts 174 million registered users, with 50,000 different categories of products, 50 million items posted at any given moment and 5 million new items for sale added to the Web site every new day.
