Man convicted of theft, Ebay fraud

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- A man who failed to deliver Ohio State-Michigan football tickets that he sold in an online auction was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison.
Mark West was convicted of theft and fraud for bilking 250 customers who bought tickets to the 2005 game at Michigan.
The 54-year-old has spent 11 months in jail and will remain there another 23 months. Wood County Judge Alan Mayberry also ordered West to pay $162,909 to those who bought the tickets.

Nashville ranks No. 2 on list of busiest eBay communities

Nashville is the second-busiest eBay community in the country, according to the auction site.It tracked online activity from Nov. 1-21 in every U.S. ZIP code and awarded points for bidding, buying, participation in online forums and charitable donations through eBay Giving Works.

The communities with the most points per capita were considered the most active on eBay.Eight of the top 10 were smaller towns, such as No. 1 Lumberton, N.J., which has a population of 12,424.

eBay's Skype Unit Undergoes Reorganization

Skype Journal reported on Tuesday that Skype underwent a reorganization in which all marketing functions will be moved to London, and 14 staff have yet to find another job at Skype or another eBay company

Word of the reorg spread when writer Om Malik picked up the news on his blog, and said changes included the "axing of the entire business development part of the company" except for a handful of country heads (http://gigaom.com/2006/11/29/skype-fires).

Protest sees school up for sale on eBay

Campaigner behind ‘prime piece of real estate’ spoofAN anti-city academies campaigner revealed last night (Thursday) why she had put up Islington Green School for sale on eBay auction website in a spoof offer.

Teacher Molly Doyle placed a £2,000 starting price on the Prebend Street school, where there are plans for a city academy backed by £2 million sponsors the City of London and City University. So far, one bidder has met the reserve price.

She said: “I have listed Islington Green School on eBay as a means to highlight the disgusting policy of this government in attempting to privatise the education system by basically selling it to the highest bidder – or any bidder for that matter. ”

One PS3 Sold Every Six Seconds on eBay

According to figures from Terapeak Marketplace Research, on November 18th, PS3s were selling on eBay at a rate of one every six seconds. More than 2200 PS3s were sold between 8 am and 10 am PST on November 18th, with more than 35,000 units listed on the online auction site between November 16th and the 22nd.

If you weren't an auction winner, don't feel too bad; you would've paid more than double the list price for your shiny new console. The average sold price of a PS3 on November 18th was $1,243, with the average price for the time period between the 16th and the 22nd ranging just a bit higher at $1,276.

Indiana 1976 championship ring is being auctioned on eBay

ring commemorating Indiana’s 1976 NCAA basketball championship is being auctioned on eBay.
The anonymous seller said Thursday he obtained the ring through the estate of the late Harold Andreas, who was one of Bob Knight’s assistant coaches in 1976, the last time a Division I team finished unbeaten.
“I am the only one to have owned the ring other than Andreas,” the seller said. “I am not a sports collector, nor an eBay-selling freak.”

The EBay Eccentric: Big balloons are a real gas

When I was four I went to annual Santa Claus parade. Parade participants included the great Root Bear and the cast of characters from McDonald’s. I especially enjoyed watching Grimace. I don’t know why but I seem to gravitate to the seven-foot 400 pounders.
Today’s small-town parade usually consists of a fire truck, a half dozen girl guides and a bevy of aldermen waving from their rented 2003 Chevy Cavalier convertibles. How weak!
