Shop's 'trash' turns out to be treasure
When Philip Anderson of Newton moved his Anderson Book and Office Supply to Main and Broadway in 1938, he had a sale to get rid of items he figured wouldn't be profitable in his new location.
Things like Dennison Halloween and Christmas crepe paper, 48-star flags, wooden toys, games and books.
When the stuff didn't sell even after he'd marked it down twice, he relegated it to the second floor of his booming business. The memory of the Depression wouldn't let him throw it away.
It sat there. And sat there.
